I have been working at MIT full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The Sasisekharan lab was the best lab that I could have ever worked for. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, accepting, and helpful. They were good people. Everyone worked really hard and together. It was a real community even though people were working on separate projects. Also, the spirit of MIT is just great in itself.

Cons

Nothing. It might be nice to have more cheap, good places to eat for lunch even though there are already a lot.

Advice to Management

Terrific. Keep it up!

I have been working at MIT full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The culture of curiosity and investigation. Good health coverage with convenient on campus facilities. Relatively generous vacation and personal day policies. Wide availibility of technical and social activities.

    Cons

Annual compensation increases tend not to keep up with inflation. Although the policies are fairly generous and most peer and supervisior interations are positive, human resources as a department if fairly obstructionist if issues do come up between emplyees and supervisor and more interested in problem issolation than resolution. (pick your supervisor and peers well in your interview ). Also while equipment and physical resources are easy to aquire expanding personel (even if demonstrably cheaper than adding equipment and external contrats) can be difficult whech results in cronic (though not generally severe) understaffing.

    Advice to Management

spend more time on developing human resources in a positive what rather than simple law suit avoidance

  2. Good community with lots of flexibility in research

I have been working at MIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues that are always willing to help out and provide advice. Freedom to pursue own research interests (if adviser lets you) Lots of resources when needed, never felt constraint by lack of resources

    Cons

Hours can be long and unpredictable. Actual situation very dependent on research advisers. Some infrastructure (office and lab-space out-dated).

    Advice to Management

Invest in existing infrastructure, not just new buildings on campus.
