Current Employee - Postdoctoral Associate  in  Cambridge, MA
Current Employee - Postdoctoral Associate in Cambridge, MA

I have been working at MIT full-time for more than a year

Pros

You get to work with the best of the best.
Several opportunities to work on difficult problems and make a significant impact on science and technology.
MIT on your resume will guarantee you interview calls, and companies even by-pass some interview rounds to hire you.

Cons

You will be one among the many geniuses in the organization. Unless you are better than a genius, you will have a hard time neing recognized within the organization (receiving recognition outside the organization is much easier and almost guaranteed). If you are not a permanent researcher/faculty, expect poor pay.

I worked at MIT as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

It's a great and fun environment with a lot of fun projects going on. It is very engaging and innovative.

    Cons

As a UROP, I worked heavily with a grad student; however, he was not always there or very readily available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If your lab is planning to take a summer UROP, the graduate student should be around for most of the summer.
