I have been working at MITRE full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Great work/life balance. Great people.

Cons

Getting more and more "corporate" vs "service to the nation." They now have five Federally Funded Research and Development Corporations (FFRDC) under the MITRE Corporation. Benefits have decreased and aren't as outstanding as they were 10 years ago.

I worked at MITRE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting technology work Great people Able to act as trusted advisor to federal government Great benefits

    Cons

Most work is advisory or R&D in nature Technical staff often do not have ability to take idea and see it through to live (other firms in industry are hired by government to do that).

    Advice to Management

Enable employees on beach to help firm develop more relationships (and projects) with civilian government

I have been working at MITRE full-time

    Pros

Work in public interest, service to country. Great benefits and professional development opportunities.

    Cons

In its effort to implement measures to stay competitive, it is losing its non-competitive, traditional FFRDC culture.

    Advice to Management

Say no to work not aligned to FFRDC values
