I worked at MTA Metro North Railroad full-time

    Pros

    Free transportation.
Great medical benefits, gym membership fees ect

    Cons

If you are not part of the "cliques", you will not thrive in this organization. Management is stagnant; too stuck in their old ways and too lazy to come up with better ways to do things. oh and the Technology is so outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop encouraging your employees to bring new ideas to the table and never acknowledge when they actually do so. If you really feel like there are things to change, then do something about it!

I have been working at MTA Metro North Railroad full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Job security when compared to private sector, Benefits, Paid Time Off

    Cons

No employee accountability, no pay increases for years on end and no incentives breeds mediocre performance. Corporate welfare mentality prevails as no one is ever held accountable for what they do or don't do. Many employees would not last a week in a for profit company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start managing performance and reward your top performers. Expand your own knowledge and experience via networking. Most Senior leaders are very stale and lack vision beyond "how we have always done it at the railroad"

    Neutral Outlook
