Current Employee - Manager  in  Sydney (Australia)
Current Employee - Manager in Sydney (Australia)

Pros

Work with alot of very intelligent staff in Sydney.
Fast changing environment.
Excellent facilities for those that cycle/ run to work.
Good work/life balance.

Cons

Regular management changes.
Offshore staff lack training and leadership to suceed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lots of knowledge has been lost moving work offshore. Better leadership needed amoung support teams in offshore regions. E.g moving someone from Sydney over to lead a team to ensure quality of service.

Recommends

Regular redundancies makes for a depressing working environment

    Former Employee - ITG Professional
    Former Employee - ITG Professional

    Pros

    - A few talented/normal people left
    - Nice, modern, well located offices
    - Activity based working in some departments (hotdesking, dockable wireless laptops)
    - Very flexible working arrangements - ability to work from home (dependent on manager)
    - Good place to start your career/learn the ropes (but they don't seem to be hiring many graduates anymore)
    - Good social culture (monthly drinks, team events, graduate/intern events, etc.)
    - Above average salary for graduates
    - Good work life balance (generally)

    Cons

    - Ingrained culture of arrogance and brainwashing - e.g. grads think they're god's gift, and are given the title of "Senior Associate" upon joining!!
    - Still using the GFC as an excuse for poor bonuses/pay rises
    - Living in constant fear of redundancy makes for a depressing working environment
    - Talented people being made redundant rather than getting promoted. Being replaced by resources in Manila/India who do everything very rigidly. Takes forever to get the simplest things done because of all the red tape.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More consistent management is needed - when one person can work from home and another in the same role can't, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Also if you keep talented people doing the same repetitive job and offer them no career progression they're going to leave.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

Former Employee - Data Analyst  in  Manila, Manila (Philippines)
Former Employee - Data Analyst in Manila, Manila (Philippines)

    Pros

    - Training not good so you are really forced to learn on your own and learn quick
    - Good support from team members but the same thing cannot be said about the manager/senior manager
    - Fast paced environment so you are really forced to keep up, which brings out the best in me (not necessarily all)
    - Great training ground to learn the banking industry
    - Free snacks!

    Cons

    - High salary but barely any benefits, other BPOs in the Philippines provide better benefits (but less basic pay)
    - Growth is very minimal, it will be hard to look for a post outside of Macquarie because of the high salary they already offer
    - Stress is high because of the volume of work and repetitive processes
    - Rotating shifts (not the best for people with health issues, although they may make exceptions for some)
    - A lot of things a prohibited (English Only Policy, no Head Phones allowed)
    - Escalation process maybe a bit odd (Director level of another department directly speaking to the associate of another department regarding an issue)

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
