Macy's Central – “Macy's is on the way to being outstanding...”

The are problems with sales staff being evaluated for getting customers to open a new credit card account with Macy's. Certain customers may have too much credit to begin with or are already drowning in CC debt and need to cut back to get their finances in line.

When the economy falters, customers understandably reduce their reliance on this form of payment. If corporate finance is hopeful customers will use/overuse this card, thereby increasing Macy's revenue stream on interest collected/transaction fees, then there's less money customers have to spend on merchandise because they're trying to get the debt paid down. Then Macy's, stuck with excess merchandise, slash prices, therefore cutting margin.

It just seems like a no-win situation for putting sales staff under a lot of stress for in the first place.
