Pros

Friendly co-workers, decent pay, diversity and work life balance are encouraged. Workload is manageable and the camaraderie between the management and staff is pretty good.

Cons

Need better incentive programs and need to encourage advancement opportunities with additional educational perks as well. Workplace environment needs to be more open and senior management needs to be more approachable.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurture the talent that is in the company and reward them with incentives such as bonuses, raises and advancement opportunities.

I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

Clothes discount, Flex hours schedule, Sales include employee discount, access to good clothing brands

    Cons

Pay rate is minimum wage with fairly low commission rates - customers mainly purchase all the clearance/special sales items, you have to surpass a high sales goal to start earning commission ~ tough to make decent money.
Too much emphasis on opening credit card accounts despite the current state of economy where customers clearly do not want more debt.
The associate breakrooms and backrooms are dismal at best - tough to keep you happy & peppy to work there sometimes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much focus on "magic" selling to customers and being "All In" but not enough focus in making your sales associate feel the "magic" to work there with higher pay rates and more bonuses. We have rent, bills, car payments, medical expenses, childcare, etc to pay and it's pretty tough to make ends meet with current pay rates and lack of appreciation.
