There is too much emphasize on opening new star reward accounts and scorecards for very little salary.

I have been working at Macy's

Pros

The associates are nice and fun to work with and the quality of the merchandise is above average. There is an extra employee discount and benefits are offered.

Cons

Sales goals are made and everyone tries to get to the register so they can make their goal. Not a culture of "team player" but one of competition and rewards to those who can make customers sign up for credit cards.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be a way that we are encouraged to work as a team not against each other. The salary should be higher for a higher quality employee.

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Co-workers are at least tolerable
    Unlimited freedom to roam and handle your tasks at your own pace
    Management aren't ALL over your work ethics

    Cons

    Other employees can get VERY competitive over a small sale (If you work as Draw vs Commission)
    Management doesn't give much direction, everything you are taught in macys training should be enough when it isn't
    Customers who give you a hard time over limited merchandise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Offer a more hands-on approach to employee satisfaction and approach to job policies and methods.
    Other than that we're pretty solid!

    Pros

    Great management team
    Flexible hours
    paid holidays for FT after 6 months
    Benefits after 6 months
    Management gives some employees empowerment, meaning they can make some decisions without calling a manager

    Cons

    Sometimes difficult to achieve sales goals
    Long hours during Christmas, some stores open 7am-12am
    If its a large store, getting ahold of a manager for customer service issues may be difficult

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If an employee wants to be promoted, do all you can to try to get them in the position that they deserve, given that they are qualified.
