I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

Techonology - tries to stay on the almost cutting edge
Environment - people are very friendly and helpful, upto to a certain point
Opportunity - advancement is possible but you have to be well liked and low keyed

    Cons

Environment - old school mentality - people can be protective of knowledge, would rather do for you than show you how to
People - too many cliques - old talent has a you against me mentality with new talent
Advancement Opportunity - you have to know someone, have the goods on someone, or be well liked to advance. Even some of the managers do not like each other

    Advice to Management

New way of thinking. Receognize folks for their ability and reward achievements on a personal level, not just in groups. Managers get all the glory when things are done well, but defacation meanders downhill and the finger pointing starts when otherwise.
Senior management needs new way of thinking - i.e. working from home is still not officially sacntioned - even though the average commute is over an hour each way...
