Current Employee - Retail Sales Associate, Part Time in Roseville, MN

I have been working at Macy's part-time (less than a year)

Pros

Not too hectic. Good about breaks and lunches.

Cons

You are there to sell credit card accounts. At closing, you will be grabbed to help set up other departments for the next day. Usually, those that are slammed, but mostly it's those that are staffed by lazy slobs.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The flexible schedule and the associate discount .

    Cons

The commission , it can work for some department but no for all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to review how the commission works for some departments, because for some department it may work well but for other it all about DEFICIT for the employee.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

good benefits, even part time. ok discount. easy to get schedule you want (great if you are a student or have another job). It can be a pleasant experience, but it depends on your manager.

    Cons

you get harassed about sales and even worse, opening credit accounts. success depends on the department you work in. only some departnents(shoes, cosmetics, etc.) get commission, which is a slap in the face to those who probably work 3 times as hard in other departments. also, store hrs can be crazy. coupons hardly ever work on anything worth buying. And please, do not expect management to have your back on anything, no matter how right you are, or wrong the crazy customer is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

every manager, including store managers, should spend time for at least a week (maybe during training) trying to make sales and solicit credit apps in the sales floor so they know how difficult a sales associate's job is.
