I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Get good discounts on products. Work well around your schedule, good place to work while also in school.

Cons

The pay is not great if you are a sale's associate. They give little hours if you are part time - I was usually scheduled 12-15 hours a week. Management is poor.

Advice to Management

Be more professional and stop gossiping about your employees, it gets around. Also, spend more personal time coaching your employees instead of acting like it's a waste of your time.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work is easy, and if you do it, management will love you, mostly. They have some of the most progressive diversity hiring practices I have ever encountered - which is good... until you realize why - that they treat everyone the same - poorly.

    Cons

There is absolutely no opportunity for advancement within the company. none. Managers are almost universally hired from outside the company, and often have no retail experience. During my time at Macy's I couldn't figure out why they made many of the hiring decisions that they did. The pay is a joke. Seriously. Even in commissioned areas (which are disappearing), it is not possible to earn a living wage. The health benefits are awful. Don't get me started about scheduling.

    Advice to Management

Offer some opportunity for advancement. I LOVED working at Macy's, but the hope of working myself out of wage-slavery never materialized - for anyone.
