Working there is fine, but don't bother with the employee prepaid card

I worked at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

My fellow coworkers were nice, we were hidden back in the gift shop department. The structure of the department was sound and there were ways to keep you busy, but if it was just too slow, then they democratically sent people home.

    Cons

The employee "discount" is a complete joke. You either have to have good credit to qualify for the credit card or you have hell with the prepaid card. I had the prepaid card because I didn't want the hassle of owing money, I just wanted to put money on the card and spend it. They apparently put a $50 credit on the PREPAID card and it caused a lot of issues with creditors. I was told that I owed them money, but when I would check the balance, it claimed they owed me the money. It was a huge hassle and the Macy's credit department is completely worthless. I finally just paid the money to shut them up so that I wouldn't screw over my own credit (which never should have been touched because IT'S A PREPAID CARD).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change how the discounts work. Making someone pay full price and then "crediting" back the discount encourages fraud on the store's side. Also, remove the $50 credit or make it a separate section on the balance reports so that it's clear what is the money that was put on the card and what is the credit as it causes far too many problems.
