Macy's West – “It's bad, it could be better....”

Pros

-Employee discount 20% off almost everything in the store (awesome) sometimes 30%
-Fashion forward place (new brands, variety, latest looks)
-Exciting promotions (coupons, sales, etc)
-Stores help local charities
-Employees recognized for work

Cons

-Minimum wage job
-The pay is not enough for all the duties a sales associate has
-Schedule is suppose to be flexible but isn't
-Selling credit cards to customers is a pain (high interest rate, hidden fees)
-Management pushes too much for credit
-Management could be improved
-Turnover is low
-Morale is low
-Too many changes for employees to adapt
-Employees aren't told about sales, promotions in advance
-Cheesy scripted phrases "Outstanding" (nobody uses that word)
-Employee raises are terrible

Advice to Senior Management

Listen to employees! Employees should be treated more like people not just as a employees. Management has a big stake at what employees are able to do, so management should ensure employees are able to do their job efficiently.

Employees should be paid more if they have a number of responsibilities (go backs, ringing customers, taking payments, cleaning fitting rooms, etc) A sales associate sales not cleans...

Group Sales Managers should be more involved in what goes on in the departments, instead of being in their offices all day. Managers should also train employees to make sure employees know how to do their job.
