One of the best hotel groups to work for

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMuch, much better than the competition in providing opportunities for junior/middle management staff into higher management. Many opportunities for performers to get cross exposure in Europe and Asia to get better ingratiated into corporate culture. Excellent HR, lots of investment into employees to curb high turnover that is a norm in the hospitality industry. Huge emphesis on senior management to keep staff happy - part of their performance evaluation is how much they advance your career! *Most* colleagues are very ambitious and are hard workers so you can compete with them in a very healthy environment to better yourself. Probably depends which location you work at but most senior management have done what you are doing and know the real issues you face and help you work through them. Very approachable. Corporate staff is very down to earth and everyone believes in the company and its values.

On the product side, simply an excellent product; something you can be proud of and want to make better. Environment is so that you do not want to let your bosses down. Salaried employees do not lose pay during slow times by taking hourly staff hours. More hours for same pay but this is a good thing when people around you are having their pay cut

ConsWhile fundemental benefits are above average, "perks", like discounts with partners, etc. are not as good as the 10-20x bigger chains. Problem is that they are too small and their presence in the US has been trimmed by the economy. There are people in every company who are a**h***s at the top and they can make your life difficult but I guess it takes skill in dealing with them. MO, while not as bad as some other hotel companies (nepotism is higly curbed), they still have their share. During lean times, long long work hours for management because hours/pay cut for hourly workers. But hopefully this will be recognized when times get better.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer 360 feedback of senior management. Annual review should be made anonymous - then you will get staff to truly tell you how they feel about the HR Directors or other they cannot touch otherwise (except maybe when they have already submitted their resignation)
