I worked at Manpower full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a Milwaukee-local company with firm and continuing roots to the community. Facility is LEED-Gold certified, downtown, free parking. They "walk the walk" on work/life balance with telecommuting, flex-time, job-sharing and so on. Much of their staff and lower management are enthusiastic, engaged, positive professionals looking to make a real difference.

    Cons

Upper management is detached from the people they manage. There is a feeling of disconnection between some support areas and the overall mission of the company despite lots of meetings and posters and inexpensive giveaways to try and make it better. Employees are pushed to give more to community causes like United Way with minimal if any increases in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cutting experience is like giving yourself amnesia. You have a complex environment and you do nothing to hold the people who have mastered it. Your salary bands aim for mediocrity and that's what you will get. Mentor, give paths for real advancement, promote from within instead of always bringing in upper management from outside. Quit following the "next, new shiny thing" and let your people help you develop MANPOWER processes that work for them. You will not become an industry leader by chasing the guys who are.
