I have been working at Marcus & Millichap

Pros

It's like joining a fraternity with a bunch of like minded businessmen who love hitting the phones and double ending deals.! Loved the last 4 months (already closed a deal) an excited for the future

Cons

Long hours (shows work ethic and how good of a broker you want to be).

They can also fire about the lower 20% of the non producing brokers

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up, maybe teach a little bit more on financing and underwriting.

    Pros

No ceiling...they give you the tools to make millions and all it takes is hard work and talking on the phone. Your first 6 months will probably entail training / cold calling and you won't make a dime. After that - the potential is endless.

    Cons

You may not make a dime for up to 18 months. It's a simple fact. You need to build a client base and that takes time. However, in the current market, you're timeline will likely be much shorter. The commercial real estate market is on fire.

Excellent corporate training, but poor local branch management.

I worked at Marcus & Millichap full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent corporate training. Great way to get foot in the commercial real estate industry. Excellent research and marketing materials.

    Cons

Ever heard the saying "Those who can't do...teach." Bad real world advice from branch manager, which is probably why that saying still goes. Tough to compete with industry veterans/competitors when branch manager has no idea what's really going on out there in the real world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ever wonder why it seems like your place is a revolving door? For branch manager: practice what you preach...and maybe you'll learn that you'll need to check in with your competitors once in a while. For upper corporate management, keep up the good work! That's why you have so many people wanting to work for you. Just maybe pick a guy with more real world experience to help your new hires learn how to compete, otherwise you'll always be looking for new agents.
