I worked at Marietta Daily Journal full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are decent, you will work with some nice people and the job can be interesting at times. Schedule can be flexible.

    Cons

Management doesn't value employees, they would rather replace you than ever consider giving you a raise. Layoffs and cutbacks are common and when a position does come open it is likely to be eliminated and the work will be divided up between current employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more value into your employees from top to bottom.

I worked at Marietta Daily Journal full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is good experience. It will show you that you need to change your career path and the down sides of working for a small, family-owned business.

    Cons

You will not be able to support yourself, much less a family on what you make here. Reporters at the Neighbor offices make $10.60/hr. Not sure what MDJ employees make. This is truly a company who treats employees like they are a dime-a-dozen. If you don't like it, fine. We'll just get another. Don't bother going to HR. That won't help. No incentives. No praise. Managers talk trash about all the reporters and photographers to EVERY one. Just a miserable place because no one is happy here. They don't even have a water cooler. Running on a shoestring budget, as expected. Please don't accept an offer here. You will be happier waiting tables, I promise you. It is a very sad environment. I'm afraid they won't be around much longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your current business model. If you're not investing in your employees, you're not investing in your paper.
