I have been working at Marketing Werks full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Lots of learning opportunities, management helps to succeed, thorough review process, GREAT place to get your feet wet for your first 1-3 years in agency work, many fun team-oriented OR solo travel opportunities

Cons

Things move very fast and work distribution is inconsistent (you are either really busy, or there's not much to do)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through is key in establishing trust in a rapidly growing company. Mean what you say, say what you mean and follow up consistently.

I have been working at Marketing Werks full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Casual attire; fun company events; fun employees; great office location in downtown Chicago; young culture; great for those in need for immediate post-graduation employment (their job requirements are minimal).

They host occasional 'Day of Fun' events (DOF) that range from bags tournaments, trips to horse tracks and local sports team games.

If you're outgoing, you'll be a good fit for an internal position. The office is cliquey and if you don't fit in you will have trouble advancing.

    Cons

Very low compensation when compared to industry averages; long hours requiring large amounts of travel; high stress and under-staffed account teams.

Most of the junior staffers hired are not experienced or educated in marketing, so it can lead to frustration when trying to complete projects.

The executive management team hires very conservatively, so be prepared to work long hours and handle a large workload. It will not change as you advance, either. Stress and expectations will only increase exponentially, but compensation does not keep pace with either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review compensation packages and get competitive within the industry. Begin to implement flex time to allow internal employees to work from home when returning from long periods of travel.

Begin to hire targeted, experienced and educated marketing and business professionals, not just folks desperate to land that first job; just because they're cheap and eager doesn't mean that they're a good fit for the work they'll be expected to accomplish.
