Pros

It's a plus to have on a resume. The company continues to grow at an explosive rate and this looks good on paper. There's also plenty of top-notch talent, which can be good if/when they choose to share their experience openly with you.

Cons

Toxic work environment filled with cronyism, politics and last-century values. This is a company that had the right product at the right time with the right talent to bring it to market. Beyond that, it's an unfriendly place to work with little or no real chances for advancement unless you're already a member of their inner-circle. The turnover is about as explosive as their growth rate, for good reason. I give it one star to balance out all the ridiculous hype you hear constantly about how great Marketo is. It's not, unless you're comfortable sacrificing your own views for the ones that you're essentially forced to agree with - namely that of upper management.

Have no illusions, upper management has the utmost contempt for the employees and no amount of sweat-shop work efforts on your part will change their views. Occasionally a newcomer get's an invite to participate in the inner-circle, but this seems like the exception rather than the rule. Yet the benefits of being one of the few who are favored by upper-management may not outweigh the cost of sacrificing your own professional opinions, which seems required to retain this status.

Somehow, a 1970s company with an utterly outdated, good ol' boy culture has slipped into this century. Unless you live on paper, which is the only place this company looks really good, I'd look elsewhere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to and respecting your employees. It doesn't take long - these days - for negative sentiment to impact social channels and brand image. Also, remember that fear is not the same as respect.

I have been working at Marketo

    Pros

There are some really good people that work at Marketo. Everyone cares about the product and the customers. The product is really good.

    Cons

Executives and upper level management don't respect employees very much and there is a good-ole-boy attitude. They will work you to the bone and suck the life out of you and expect more and act like you still don't give enough. You put in long hours and have no work life balance. Upper Management are out of touch and will be completely surprised by these comments because they don't have a clue about us or maybe don't care. The day to day workplace is gossipy. It is a really toxic place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some respect to everyone. Treat your employees the way you want to be treated. Take a good hard look at the company. The lower level employees are what got you where you are and need to be respected. Just because we are growing doesn't mean it is a happy place.
