I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Lots of interesting tech work and fairly flexible work-life balance and good vacation policies (but changing and not so good for new hires). Work from home for many techies. Employees are generally happy with the way it is run, good hotel discounts, and Marriott has been run like a family company with employees treated well.

Cons

Very big changes are underway as IT outsourcing projects have been started so be aware of this if you are looking for a long term job as it might turn into a one year job, if they even hire at all because they might close off outside hiring in light of the consolidation and outsourcing ahead. Given current events, for short term experience, it is good, but not long term which is a gamble. Med insurance is available but not especially cheap.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be wary of outsourcing and what you get stuck with besides cheaper costs. You have been down this road before and dodged a bullet. Maybe not this time.

    Pros

Great benefits, great brand of hotel, and most importantly great managers.

    Cons

No room for growth in specific departments. I am in Sales and there is no "next on the ladder."

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home; technology infrastructure is modern and updated as much as budgets allow; current benefits are good, bonuses and good paid time off days.

    Cons

Changes are a'comin' fast and furious. The paid time off days have been slashed for new employees, and there's the real possiblity many IT jobs will be outsourced to save money. If you are an IT job candidate looking a Marriott ask hard questions about outsourcing and the direction the company is taking. Marriott was a decent IT shop, but those days may well be over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Will eliminating IT jobs solve your financial problems? Cuts could occur in many layers of IT management but it appears the worker bees will take it con the chin. Before outsourcing, pare your IT management ranks, save million$$ and maybe, just maybe save the future of some well-deserving worker bees.
