Traditional corporate, consensus driven environment currently focused on rapid growth

Senior Director, Marketing (Current Employee) Bethesda, MD

ProsVery busy - always, with good opportunity to get exposure to cross-functional areas. Employees are supportive (not competitive) and helpful - always willing to give advice and opinions. Long-tenured staff and highly networked with each other. Diverse. Good travel bene's. Good place to work when raising a family.

ConsSlow to change and reluctance of sr leaders to make decisions. Very narrow definition of what successful people look like - creativity not always valued. Growth opportunities slow down greatly after Director level. Dilution of empl benefits in the last 5 years. Major emphasis on growth at the expense of guest/customer satisfaction. Not enough investment in modernizing legacy systems.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou've abandoned the balanced score-card (employees, guests, owners, investors) favoring owner profit above all - even abandoning customer satisfaction. Yournew HR policies are damaging what used to be a very healthy corporate culture.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Not bad, but not good

Night Auditor (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than 3 years

Pros: The work is easy once you get used to it The room rate discount, when it's… Cons: -NO opportunity for advancement. NONE. They do not hire from within. Every job has to be posted and 9 times out of 10 they bring… Advice to Senior Management: Promote from within and you'll have some good, dedicated employees. No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More

Good Company, but not great for new hires

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) Bethesda, MD

I have been working at Marriott full-time for less than a year

Pros: They have good health benefits, flexible schedules and telecommuting. Cons: They really axed the PTO for new hires this year. Hard for a company to promote a work life balance and getting awards from… Advice to Senior Management: Instead of axing PTO so drastically, how about a less drastic reduction? Marriott should not focus on being on par with other cmpanies, but… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend More
