I have been working at Marriott full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Working for this company has shared a number of great attributes from company sponsored outings, leniency for associates needing time off, and a sense of nurturing for those eager to grow.

Cons

The pay just isn't there. Only way it appears to gain the a higher salary is to know friends who work within specific departments, transfer around different departments or acquire tenure status; basically working for a very long time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivation is key to driving a team to proceed toward their highest achievements. As soon as you, the superior/leader, appear to lose focus of the goals for the team then its obvious for associates to sense that. If management were to weed out the "lazy" folks, maybe some of us actual HARD-WORKERS can finally catch a break.

I have been working at Marriott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great travel benefits. The people I've encountered have been genuinely passionate about what they do everyday and it reflects both in their approach to work as well as their everyday lives outside of the hotel.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities unless you're willing to relocate every couple of years. Senior leadership tends to get comfortable once they land in a desirable location, so you have to constantly move where the next level of opportunities are (domestically or internationally). Relocating every couple of years is not a viable option for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allowing multiple department heads to remain in the same hotel, running the same department for 20+ years is not conducive to the type of innovation and creative thinking that is going to foster and create the next generation of leadership.

I have been working at Marriott full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

If you are a hard worker and care about what you contribute, then you will be supported to move around or move up by your direct leadership team. Marriott hires associates who have previous experience in their field so everyone knows what they are doing. Teamwork is awesome. Always ways to learn more and get involved. There are times where there are extra hours for overtime when the hotel is busy, if you are hourly. We also do fun events and contests to keep it fun.

    Cons

If you are part-time, it may be a little difficult sometimes to get hours if it is slow. Hotel industry is always up and down; unpredictable business.
