I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Every Marriott I've worked at is very good at treating their employees well. This will vary a little depending on whether the property is a franchise or managed by corporate, however, the culture Marriott encourages is very positive regardless of the management.

Cons

When starting out in the industry the pay can be pretty low. Working in departments like housekeeping can be a very thankless job with very high standards and very little time to accomplish them. Departments like the front desk can be very stressful and sometimes the guests can be the worst part of the job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micro-manage. Give your staff (especially the front desk) the tools they need to let that guest walk away smiling.

    I worked at Marriott full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Flexible hours, Provided free lunch, occasional pizza or food parties for lunch, good with time off. overall decent people. Very professional, and not a lot of fighting with upper management.

    Cons

    Fighting between departments, when business was slow hours were cut drastically, (even full time got as low as one day of work a week during the slow season) Low protection of employees from sexual harrassment from guests. I was told that the guest was a vip so not to make too much of a fuss about it.

    Protect your employees better.

    Pros

    Low impact job. You work with guests from many different backgrounds. The Hotel business is fun for those who aim to please!

    Cons

    Pay, management, and procedures. Action plans vary by property, and I would recommend not working for a franchise. It will lead to a dead end job with minimal opportunities for growth.

    Better pay & involvement with employees.
