Pros

There is a lot of long term growth potential, provided you work hard. Lots of bright people who are willing to share knowledge and experience for a variety of coverage lines. Lots of good exposure to clients in a variety of industries.

Cons

If working for a large company is not your cup of tea, then this could be looked down upon. There are varying aspects of working for a large company that can deter some people, but local offices make you forget how large the company actually is.

Advice to Management

Local Senior Management does a good job of communicating with employees about key issues. Given the Spitzer saga, Senior Management has done a good job of continuing to work to make Marsh the best broker in the world.

  1. MMC is potentially a great place to build the best, but long term leadership is needed.

    Pros

Teamwork, knowledge sharing and the work-life balance of the insurance industry. Senior folks regularly acknowledge the work of subordinates and almost shy away fom taking credit for the work of others.

    Cons

High level of beurocracy, local chieftans and posturing, resistance to thinking outside the box at the day to day level. There have been so many fits and starts overt the last few years that people are wary of anyone touting solutions - potentially a disaster brewing but for the fact that most employees, those looking to create wealth and value, not simply take it, are team players willing to build for the the sake of being part of something larger than themselves.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course and stick around beyond 2010.

  2. A good place to work

    Pros

    - Plenty of time off
    - Opportunity for growth
    - I would definitely recommend it to someone who is looking for balance between work and time off. Vacation days are plentiful and easy to use. MMC also provides an opportunity for growth and advancement. I would strongly encourage someone to work here if advancement and balance are their main goals.

    Cons

    - Slow to for changes to happen

    Advice to Management

    - Keep cutting expenses
