It pays the bills, but stay out of the operations side if you can.

I have been working at Martin Marietta Materials full-time

Pros

Pay is OK, maybe slightly below industry standards. Most people are nice to work with.

Cons

Area management expects those who supervise and manage the quarries to do so with almost no manpower or resources. Very common for a manager to be doing 2 or more people's duties for months at a time because running lean is the "new normal". 12+ hour days are the standard, plus mandatory weekend work. Not a good fit if you have anything in your life that interests you besides work, because the work/life balance is a joke.

If you have an engineering or other degree I would recommend district/division/corporate positions only, because you will get worked to death in the operations.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff the operations adequately. Don't expect salaried employees to work an absurd amount of hours. Burned out employees are not safe or effective.

Negative Outlook

I have been working at Martin Marietta Materials

    Pros

Overall compensation and benefits package are competitive for most positions.
Good team work inside of departments in most cases but issues across departments at times

    Cons

Lots of churn right now in some departments about future direction.
Different divisions are sometimes at odds with overall corporate ideas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider impact of big decisions like possible mergers on individuals more and recognize uncertainty it is causing/impact on getting the current work done
