I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Very nice Campus, good facilities: GYM, Cafeteria, Basketball and volleyball yards.

Cons

Not the best place to work. Relatively low salaries.

Pay attention to the good employees who are leaving because of low salaries

    I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    The food at the cafeteria is cheap and great. The managers are all engineers, so you can easily discuss technical details with them. Design teams have access to the best EDA tools available, and the CAD team is very capable. There are lots of opportunities for engineers with 0-7 years of experience to grow professionally.

    Cons

    Lots of internally designed IP simply doesn't work, but the management organization makes it impossible to hold the owners accountable. Since the advent of shuttle tapeouts, lots of projects seem to be "test chips" that never get into production. The IT infrastructure is terrible -- probably 25% of the time your project will have problems with the file server, disk space, jobs not being run on the servers, etc. Duplication - multiple teams are designing different versions of the same IP or SoC. The video and cell phone groups consume a lot of resources but don't contribute revenue. Management benchmarks its current projects in development to those from competitors that have already been in production for several years. In the last two years, lots of top 25% engineers have left but management won't fire the bottom 10%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Abandon video and cell phones. Return to focusing on storage, communications, and wireless. Eliminate the duplication in designing IPs and SoCs. Fire the bottom 10%. Ban taping out "test chips". Use all the money you saved to build an acceptable IT infrastructure and reward your top employees. Be aggressive in defining innovative new products.

    Pros

    * Great health benefits. In fact, one of the plans just beats plans offered by many other companies
    * Awesome dining and cafe. Really, one of the best I have come across with the exception of Google.
    * Perfect work life balance. Nice ping pong tables, volleyball court.

    Cons

    * Salary is a joke. All reviewers commenting here that the salary is average or acceptable are either satisfied with whatever pittance is being thrown at them or are in denial or for some arbitrary reason are actually getting a good salary. Generally speaking, compensation is atrocious. If you don't believe me, just compare Glassdoor numbers with other companies in similar space.
    * Process process process: there is none. Its the most frustrating experience of this company. You spend a lot of time doing things that should not have been a problem. It leads to low quality of work and high inefficiency.
    * The company is slowly bleeding and what the company needs is aggressive, motivating and innovative executives. Execs you can look upto, who inspire the employees and who meet their goals. What Marvell has are old school execs who are unwilling to change with time and competition and you cant trust a word they say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Read glassdoor stats. Only 42% recommend this company and CEO approval rating is 44%. I haven't seen anything lower than this. I give this company 4-6 quarters. The above issues are serious: Talent pool is drying up at Marvell. Marvell lets go of awesome employees like it means nothing to them. Stock is tanking and execs look like they have no clue what they are doing. So 6 quarters tops and if nothing changes, jump ships because this is sinking for sure.
