I worked at MassMutual full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Vacation time, 401(K)/Pension plan. Easy access, gym

Cons

After initial re-org (forgot what they called it -something about "excellence" when top down layoffs started, upper level mgrs were put in roles they were not suited for nor did they take the time to understand. The messsage our area heard was basically- be happy you have a job, and you are all replaceable. This was a company I was in for over 15 years and the plan was to do in daily, do a great job, give 100%+ all the time, and then retire. Well, if you were not the "bosses buddy" that did not happen. Nice company to start with, ended up not a nice company. Focus was only on the bottom dollar.

Advice to Management

Talent comes in many shapes and forms. Be sure to keep your minds open to understand them, and your eyes open to see them. Reaching the better bottom dollar comes in many ways. Understand that.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Excellent products. Excellent commission rates. MMLISI is a very good broker-dealer for securities business. MassMutual agents are not captive, so even if you work at a MassMutual office you can still submit business with other companies. (And if you do the business through ASH Brokerage, they even count somewhat towards your sales targets.)

    Cons

Training programs are weak for new agents. Products are very high-end and are geared to experienced professionals and the wealthy. If you don't sell you don't get paid.

    Advice to Management

Give new agents more of a chance. Invest in your fresh blood instead of telling them to come up with a list of all of their friends and family members and throwing them to the wolves.

  2. I help people maximize return for their money while minimizing risk and tax implication.

    Pros

Financial gain and independence are keys to a happy work life balance.

    Cons

It takes a while to build a successful practice.

    Advice to Management

Good training program. I feel like a more complete adviser than at NML. The product training is superior and I have learned creative ways to fund insurance programs, such as annuities, etc.
