Pros

Great upside compensation potential for as long as you can stay out of the cross hairs....

Cons

culture of managing by fear. The average tenure of a MassMutual GA is only about 6 years. Roughly 10% of their GA's are terminated each year and once a GA leaves MassMutual, they do all they can to "blacklist" and keep the GA's from moving to competitors.

There is also an unethical culture in the compliance and legal areas of the company. company has a long history of circling the wagons whenever they make a mistake and look for someone to "throw under the bus" Putting agents and GA's in financial ruin.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire most of your legal and compliance team and try admitting when the company makes mistakes instead of looking for someone to throw under the bus.....

    Pros

    In the home office, commradre was noticable. People were very friendly and there was a nice work atmosphere. The company does offer some wonderful products, some of which are bar none, some of the best whole life and disability contracts in the industry.

    Cons

    No room for growth. Upper management just wants to hire their friends.
    Moved the company (Enfield location) to Springfield...glad I left before this happened.
    Management is completely clueless. Hired McKinsey Consultants to come in and "clean house" It was not a good atmosphere to be working in. Very depressing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of management and start over. Literally. The upper level executives are out of touch with their employees. I would have liked to have stayed there for longer but with them firing people at their own will and without concern (and I mean really good people let go) they have no concern at all for the welfare of their employees. It's all about the bottom line and how much Crandall and the rest of the upper management team makes in salary and bonuses.
