I have been working at MasterCard full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – + Definite opportunities for career advancement (both lattice & ladder).
+ Smart, talented people.
+ Great CEO and executive leadership team.
+ Attention to building diversity in workforce at all levels.
+ Global business experience opportunities.
Cons – - Locations for bigger offices on periphery of cities (i.e.; suburban) so transit to/from home in city is long and, at times, arduous.
- Suffers middle-management "bloat" in some key areas, which hinders innovation and growth.
- Some cronyism exhibited in certain areas, protecting "empty suits" instead of folks doing the work.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a long, hard look at every member of your leadership team (all levels from Leader to Group Head). Determine the value they PERSONALLY add to what we make. Ask yourselves, is this person necessary? I think you'll find quite a few "empty suits" in middle management roles who have been promoted without a clear understanding of the value they bring to the company.
