Pros

Pay is decent. Stakeholder bonuses nice but average out to bonuses you'd get at any other decent software company. Nice campus.

Cons

They hire a lot of people right out of school and they tend to stay a long time. Organization is a bit inbred. Significant emphasis placed on how long you've worked there in many aspects of the job - from how much influence you have on projects to what hotel you get at the summer outing. I'm surprised that parking isn't tenure-based. Limited opportunity for promotion. Extremely process heavy. There's no problem a new process can't solve.

Advice to Management

Get better at assimilating new employees. Just because someone hasn't worked at MW for 10+ years doesn't mean they won't have better ideas than those who have spent their entire careers there. Hire more experienced people from outside MW and put them in positions of influence.

    Pros

Great emphasis on employee benefits and quality of work life ... Like great workspaces, nice offices, great cafeteria. Very family friendly.

    Cons

Everything is decided by large groups of people and anyone can scrutinize or question a decision. This can be frustrating for experienced people who join the company and find it very difficult and Tim consuming to get decisions made.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people that you hire to make recommendations and decisions.

    Pros

Friendly, courteous, and respectful working environment. Staff members here walk around with smiles on their faces and open and hold doors for you. By themselves these things are small, but it makes a huge difference in the morale of a workplace when people look and act like they are happy to be there. We also sincerely hold ourselves to our core values on a day-to-day basis. A lot of companies have core values, but MathWorks lives them.

    Cons

MathWorks has an extremely structured organization with a lot of process, which can be frustrating for people looking to make changes fast. And the non-telecommuting environment is not for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Suggest taking a closer look at salary ranges for rare skill sets. We could be missing out on superior talent do so constraints in some cases.
