Pros

The MathWorks is a great software company - primarily because the technology is cutting edge, but also because the company has a rational workplace. It is a professionally respectful environment and the work-life balance is great.

Cons

Sometimes when you're new to the company getting changes considered and adopted can be an uphill battle. It seems like you need to learn The MathWorks Way before you have credibility, regardless of your seniority walking in the door.

Advice to Senior Management

I would ask that you think about allowing telecommuting for certain individuals where the role could be done remotely... it would add to quality of life and morale and has been proven effective in lots of other companies.
