I worked at Mattel

Pros

Great management (in my case). I learned everything from concept design to finished on the shelf toy. Brainstorm weeks are fun and inspiring. You come out with a lot more skills and an open door to other companies. They have day care and Christmas & Halloween are a blast. It's a giving company.

Cons

Big corporate environment that's not design driven. A lot of long meetings.

I worked at Mattel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It is a company for long term growth, good benefits, and enjoyed working in the toy manufacturing industry.

    Cons

I have no input at this time.

Great place to work...but layoffs are a way of life.

I worked at Mattel full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great company, great brands and very talented people. Pay is really good and they have amazing benefits. It's the most fun I've ever had at a job!

    Cons

I was told that, as a creative, you will eventually get laid off. And sure enough, that did happen. Every year, the rumors of layoffs become intense...to the point that it's hard for people to get work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider keeping creative talent in the areas of their expertise and where their passion is. Too often, people get moved to other parts of the business to get ahead only to displace people that are happy where they are.
