I have been working at Mattress Firm full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Pay is awesome. Some of the top writers make 100k a year. If your average, you should make at least 55k. The people they hire are really cool, and the boss is rarely ever around.

Cons

The retail hours. 10-8 M-Sat 12-6 Sunday. Weekends are mandatory. About 1-3 pretty irrelevant sales meetings a month that start at 8:30am. Work all Holidays, except Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

    Pros

This company is a great company to work for with wonderful training, earning potential, and chance for promotions, as it is growly quickly. If you are a young sales professional....

    Cons

If you are over 40-50, beware. They will promise you things, but once you get to a certain level, the chance for promotion is slim. They will discriminate. If you are close (friends) with management, you might get a chance. Long hours, but hey it is retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The DM's need to look at performance, time with the company, passion, commitment, not youth or "friends". If it continues, there could be a discrimination lawsuit. Also, with management changing constantly with growth, past experiences with management (documented performance, etc) should be taken into account.

I have been working at Mattress Firm full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Mattress Firm has the best training in the business, and you'll learn a lot about sales. If you're in the right store you'll have an excellent income potential.

    Cons

Employees are rated on a very poorly designed metric. Management blames employees for matters outside of their hands (ie, making no sales on days no one comes through the doors). Far too much "rah rah" stuff, with management only wanting to hear good news, and blaming those who bring bad news for creating a poor work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accept that bad news can be valuable. Give an honest assessment of the problems when business is slow and be less quick to blame those lowest on the totem pole. Incorporate a better metric for evaluating sales.
