I have been working at Maxim Integrated

Pros

Very flexible work hours.
Wide visibility to higher management
Good place for followers. Don't try to lead any new ideas or activities unless you are told to do so!

Cons

Mandated innovation drives that create a lot of work and buzz but no results.
Promotion via buddy system - often promoting people who are the least capable
No appreciation for those who push for a better company.
Little sense of reality - It's 2011 and not 1993!
Not a place for fresh ideas, unless they come from the top!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real. Some of the goals and metrics are ridiculous!
Go get a MBA or similar so you learn what management means! To us who have seen more mature companies from inside, Maxim does not shine as the most professional managed place.

    Pros

Good business model. Initially granted ability to change, create, improve. Decent benefits and bonus program. Talented group of co-workers that would work long hours for the joy of creating quality work.

    Cons

Drastic change in work environment over last few years. Tyrannical upper management. Lack of trust in the organization. All emphasis on negatives. Loyal employees no longer fit new organizational model.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pounding on a table during meetings is generally not a good motivational tool. Some positive reinforcement is a good thing. Take a good look at why morale is so bad at so many locations.

    I worked at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

Great products, lots of oppurtunity to grow, great company performance, a promise of cultural change, world class new building (2012)

    Cons

Some senior management has very poor people skills, inconsistent to the culture the CEO or other executives are promoting, negative reinforcement consistent in my department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

check that all departments are motivating good people to stay and avoid political agenda in managing people. This drives good people away from Maxim
