I worked at Maxim Integrated full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The people and work environment are good. Treat everyone fairly. Really good benefits. Decent work/life balance.

Cons

Sometimes management does not take input from regular employees. Employees who actually do the job. Pay is low compared to market rate. Not much growth.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start paying employees market rate. Need to take input from average employees.

I worked at Maxim Integrated full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Family oriented, plenty of opportunities for lateral and upward advancement. Executive management is accessible and approachable... Happy to see they are attempting to modernize and refresh their reputation and brand

    Cons

Despite efforts to refresh their brand, the company is still very old school with limited flexibility. You work long hours and are expected to work/attend meetings while on vacation. Executives and upper management allow personal and internal politics to overshadow some very intelligent, and hard working employees of all levels.

Policies and procedures are set in such a way with too many players that it was nearly impossible to leave a meeting on time or execute / get approval on a project. Collaboration was the buzz, but individuals and departments failed continually to execute.

    I began to miss Jack's 13 Principles.

I worked at Maxim Integrated full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with the newest technology you'll be pushing the envelope with one of the most innovative analog, mixed signal and RF companies in the industry. Excellent pay, good benefits, flexible hours, lots of autonomy and self direction. Rewards for those who can deliver quality products on time.

    Cons

You'll be held to the schedule that you determine, so don't underestimate the amount of work it will take to get the job done and if you do expect to put in as much time as it takes to achieve your commitment. You are expected to know every aspect of the job, you won't get a lot of help on things you should know but don't. Management sometimes acts Spock-like, impervious to emotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is generic for every high tech company: Don't underestimate the negative effects of your decisions on people's lives. Coercion can backfire and reduce productivity. This is easily fixed with layoffs but given what it takes to get good talent you shouldn't intentionally drive the motivation out of the staff.
