I have been working at Maxim Integrated

Pros

Profitable company with strong focus on success. Competence is king here -- lots of VERY smart, very committed people. A team environment with all focused on success. Excellent benefits, especially health. Company looks after employees. Company really does the goal setting other companies talk about. The "13 Principles" are really practiced.

Cons

Focus on productivity and accomplishment sometimes means not as sensitive or warm as some companies. Not a lot of "warm and fuzzy" here. Terrible place to be if you're not very competent or not interested in success of self and company, but plenty of reward if you're competent and committed. Not as much training as there should be.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to do more training and have better support for inexperienced employees. There has been a lot of progress, hope to see more. Improve cooperation and communication between business groups.

    I worked at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

I can't think of any unless you just have to eat and can't find any where else to work. There is always hope for change, but it depends on how long Tunc Duluca maintains Jack's culture and methodologies.

    Cons

It is the most micromanaged environment I could ever imagine. Micromanagement has its place, but those in executive management making the decisions were unqualified to do so. When they made the wrong decision, they then blamed the people they made the decision for. It's also impossible to get anything done in such an environment. EVERYTHING funnels through the CEO, which is ridiculous for a multi-billion $ company- particularly one in the high tech industry where you live and die by your ability to innovate and the speed at which you can bring innovations to market or react to changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the smartest managers, directors, and individual contributers you can find and empower them. If you do that, you'll make more money and people will be in a much more satisfying employment role. This will in turn build loyalty and morale, which will result in people working harder for the company and taking the chance to bring new ideas to you. You should also value education more- we were told, for example, that an MBA is worthless; this is incredibly shallow. It is such minds that can bring you the most through their competitiveness, thirst for knowledge, and drive for self-improvement. You have no idea how much intellectual talent you lost to TI and even other industries **that you could have easily and inexpensively retained.**
