Pros

Nice colleagues, free coffee/tea/sodas, free breakfast on Thursdays, subsidized cafeteria, nice team outings and end of year celebration events.

Cons

Very corporate in terms of slow processes, red tape, and politics. If you have new innovative ideas, they might be shot down because management is a lot older and can feel threatened. Also, since McAfee has reached it peak, employees have become lazy. Do not expect to get work done on Fridays, since the building is practically empty with people "working from home."

Advice to Management

Only hire the best, most intelligent, and emotionally stable for Manager, Director, VP positions. I witnessed a director who was very hostile in meetings, by attacking employees ideas and belittling their efforts. Managers need LEADERSHIP training, as I witnessed many managers be two-faced with their direct reports. Unacceptable.

    Pros

Leading projects and products and really smart folks across sales, marketing, engineering functions, resources of Intel

    Cons

McAfee is a big company with big company challenges. Not sure how that has changed or not since the Intel acquisition

    Advice to Management

    Be flexible and fast

Great turn-around of an old line company in trouble

    Pros

Vibrant culture - very people-focused and friendly, great products, decent salary and benefits. Original turn-around and high growth strategy led by Dave DeWalt was very exciting and on the right path. Result was unique breadth and depth of portfolio and rapid increase in market share. Culture developed around combination of great hiring and emphasis on people-related programs and activities.

    Cons

Struggling under thumb of Intel, very poor top management, brain drain in senior executives and tech talent since Intel acquisition. Management has shifted to more demanding and political style, with resulting impact on performance in some areas. Over emphasis on sales investment has made other functions suffer and built sense of unfair distribution of resources.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to break away from Intel. Invest more broadly across business functions, moving away from just staffing up sales in spite of low productivity. Find a way to change out top management to get stronger industry and people leaders.
