Seems to be having an identity crisis about the type of company they want to be to their employees

    Pros

Well known brand with market leadership in core categories. The only "big CPG' company in the DC/Baltimore area. Good benefits in general - employee discounts on products is amazing.

    Cons

Still thinks of themselves as a "family-oriented company" who values everyone's contributions. However, work-life balance is the same as most other big CPGs (i.e., you'll need to work nights and weekends to keep up). Pretty clique-y; long tenured employees often discount newer employees POV, believing it's their way or the highway just because they've been there, not because their decision is necessarily right for the business. Not much invested in employee development. Short term (i.e. Wall St oriented quarterly focus) results in many smaller brands being under invested in. As such, when resources are cut, they miss out on market opportunities when multiple competitors get to that space first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what type of company you want to be and be true to that vision. If you want to become a top CPG, then invest more in both employees (old and new) and more of your brands. If you want to be the "family oriented company", then give your employees more resources so they can actually see their families on their personal time. Either way, be honest about who you are trying to be when trying to attract potential new hires.

Production lines are poorly utilized and even more poorly scheduled

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great employees, on or above board pay and benefits, good work environment, the rank and file really treat people very well and are incredibly helpful

    Cons

Management is disconnected from reality. Manufacturing operations would collapse without forced overtime. This is actually a 24/7 operation that is pitched to employees as a 24/5 operation, just be honest and do it right. Production stops for meetings, meetings, meetings, and more meetings. Huge emphasis on corporate politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out on the shop floor. Listen to your employees, don't just provide lip service. Stop abusing the workforce more than you abuse the equipment. Say what you do, do what you say, your credibility is grossly suffering.
