Pros

RSM McGladrey is a great place for a career. There are many opportunities for advancement, while maintaining work/life balance. Co-workers are friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely concerned for one another.

Cons

Working at a large corporation has it's down side, primarily the internal politics. While internal politics is inevitable RSM does a great job of keeping employees informed and addressing issues as they arise.

Advice to Management

Culture is an important part of any organization so do what is necessary to nurture it. RSM's culture is one of it's most positive attributes and while there are always things happening that threaten this don't allow these issues to change what is most positive about the firm.

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits; career advancement if you are lucky enough to work in a growing sector. Good holiday and end of season party. Partners/managing directors have an open door policy and in general can be easily approached. Pretty fair evaluation system.

    Cons

There are too many office politics and games - just doing a great job will not get you anywhere. The company is confused about what culture it wants to have. The pay is decent, but too many hours are expected for the pay. Other than the CPA, the company does not encourage employees to seek out other designations. The company has a small town feel which appeals to some, but it needs to do a better job of hiring and promoting minorities (i.e. African American, Latinos, Asian, Jews). The company uses a variety of sneaky tactics to monitor employee's activity and ultimately get rid of employees they no longer want to keep. Unfortunately, it is not a comfortable environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

Clarity and straight talking with employees is what is needed. Pay attention to the nature of employees' complaints and concerns.

    Pros

Overall good management in the heartland of the company. Good pay, benefits, etc. Education benifits were good. There was money for special marketing efforts.

    Cons

Don't expect salary increases over time; that takes an extraordinary situation. Changing comp plans year to year make it tough to plan. Very "accountant" culture with resentment of sales efforts.

    Advice to Management

The effect of changes and layoffs inevitably causes challenges in espirit de corps. Little was done to meet the challenge. On the other hand, sometimes you can say little _can_ be done.
