McGraw-Hill Education – “McGraw-Hill: Good benefits, not much else”
2 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
McGraw-Hill has a decent benefits package: employee credit union, 401K, health/dental, unlimited sick days (within reason - ie, at manager's discretion), and 3 weeks of paid vacation after 2 years of employment (if you have worked there for under 2 years, you get 2 weeks of vacation), in addition to the usual paid federal holidays. It is also very accepting of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees and sponsors annual workshops relating to issues that affect this community. There is also profit-sharing, but there is rarely a profit in the education sector, so that is really not much of a benefit.
Cons
The environment is fuddy-duddy and dowdy. Management, even if they listen to and care about your needs/concerns, is powerless to do anything because of the corporate structure of the company. There is no cost of living salary increase, only an increase based on the employee's yearly review. Even a very good review will only fetch a 2 to 2.5% pay raise for an employee. I personally know of one instance where an employee was given the highest review possible, but upper management declined to sign off on it because they didn't want to increase the employee's salary accordingly. There is almost no support for professional development, and even fewer opportunities for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't pretend to your employees that you can make things better, because you know that you cannot! Such is the corporate environment.
