I have been working at McGraw-Hill Education full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Competitive compensation and big cubes

Cons

No training available and the systems are terrible to use since they are not made for both the print and digital worlds. Also upper mgmt will do anything and I mean ANYTHING to hit their numbers since their AIP payout is tied to this.

Advice to Management

Upper mgmt needs to invest in training and the systems but I know they won't since all they do is lookout for themselves.

I worked at McGraw-Hill Education full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The cafeteria is great (though they raised the prices a little too high). Generous holidays (about 10-11 days/yr.).

    Cons

Because of the buyout, management is in a very confused place now. The design department can be ok if the design manager knows what they're doing, which they don't always. A lot of "reacting" and "over-reacting" when it would be good for them to take a breath and figure things out. Making the switch from paper to digital is going to take a while.

    Advice to Management

Try and show a little patience with your designers. This is a big transition for everyone and you'll get a lot more loyalty with honey than with a riding crop.

I have been working at McGraw-Hill Education full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work Life Balance Flexibility is why I took the job, but it is dependent on your manager. Employees are very passionate about the industry

    Cons

Company is transition, staff reductions make it feel like you are working with a skeleton crew. Communication is top down only. low morale high stress and inter-departmental fighting

    Advice to Management

Stop minimizing communication/feedback from lower levels. Exec's validate each others position which makes them out of touch.
