I have been working at McGraw Hill Financial

Pros

McGraw-Hill is a well-established company with decent benefits, and it is fairly well-diversified. It isn't terribly sexy, but it feels good to create a tangible product.

Cons

Gets too much credit for promoting Work/Life balance which is only truly practiced in pockets. Klunky execution of technology.

Don't Consider Joining. All about politics.

I worked at McGraw Hill Financial full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Struggling to think of any. They provide ergonomic office chair.

    Cons

Driving goals without proper plans and buy-in. Senior management has no regard for quality of work but roll out programs just to meet KPI. Everything is in a rush without considering long term impact. Soul crushing environment. They don't value the skills and strengths that you bring. Regional leadership is totally dysfunctional. There no regional leadership to begin with. On-going politics and power struggle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO is a smart leader. However some of his N-1 and N-2 are totally incompetent. If you want real active management model, then get rid of all the incompetent people, set up regional cross businesses head roles and country head roles instead of just reporting to global BU heads. Finally, listen more to your employees.

I worked at McGraw Hill Financial as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Modern building above the CW tube station and shopping mall; fantastic people, corporate

    Cons

    - Work life balance is abysmal within specific HR Teams. Often the entire team in Comps work 3 days from home whilst the sole individual is expected to man the desk 5 days in office despite living in the other side of London.

    - salary poor. Came from oil and gas industry to drop half wages and subsequently resigned after 6 months to return back to Oil & Gas.

    - no cohesion and poor team communication. No coaching given for individuals who wish to enhance their learning curve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lower your performance expectations when sourcing candidates to work for you. Do not expect your ideal candidate will become your "Mini-me" overnight and do not trap them in "Catch 22" performance feedbacks. (Eg, feedback to speed up with work load. Speeding up workload leads to errors leading to a summon)
