Pros

A strong culture of growth. Values quality journalism. Benefits are very good.

Cons

It's a big company and can be overly bureaucratic.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline and improve the back office functions. Real estate, IT costs, etc. are too big a burden on operating units and are not responsive enough.

I worked at McGraw Hill Financial full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I was brought on board as a Technology Infrastructure Project Manager and a few weeks after getting started, announcement was made to outsource all off the technology roles. Executives expected this to be a better methodology.

While bringing economics to the entire organization, it was "supposed' to streamline process.

    Cons

The overall outsourcing not only encompassed the Technology organization but also finance and human resources.

The schedule was not met to turnover to the offshore team, many long term employee's were put out to pasture and over a year later, process is NOT streamlined as expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a travesty! Many employee's who dedicated their life's work to this company were put out to pasture. There seems to be trend in doing this here in the US and this is breaking the back of the American workers. Companies who only think of the economic aspect should be made aware that this is NOT acceptable by not buying their products or services.

I have been working at McGraw Hill Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great process for on boarding new employees and helping them to start being as productive as possible as soon as possible. The peer mentor that you are assigned your first day on the job is very helpful.

    Cons

Trying to meet people on other floors or departments it not easily done since there is no cafeteria or central place to meet other employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue the great on boarding process for all new employees and reinforce the value of the peer mentor role.
