I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical

Pros

1. Interesting projects which often require creative solutions
2. Willingness to spend on technology in some areas
3. Easy to transfer to another department if talented
4. Some telecommuting allowed
5. Better than average benefits

Cons

1. Very noisy. It's a cubicle environment with not nearly enough conference rooms.
2. Lower than average salaries.
3. Quantity matters more than quality. Although upper management claims to want us to do less but at a higher quality, this is not what my 15-person team is experiencing. Everyone is working on multiple projects with almost no time allocated for design due to my next point.
4. The blind use of Agile methodologies for almost all projects. The results is way, way too many database tables which don't play well with each other. I have never experienced such (needlessly) complex data before joining McKesson.
5. Poor project management.

I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical

    Pros

There is a lot of respect around the workplace here.

    Cons

The salary isn't the best. The medical insurance used to be great now it is not that great but I suppose that is how most companies are getting.

It started out great, but quickly changed...

    I worked at McKesson Medical-Surgical

    Pros

Solid company that was growing. The benefits were good and the pay was okay.

    Cons

No support for the sales reps. More and more was being put on our plates and no help was given. If you had a high travel territory you easily worked 60+ hours a week just to keep your head above water, much less anything extra. Unrealistic goals...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop assuming people are lazy or incompetent when often times management sets the bar too high and doesn't provide enough resources to give people an opportunity to thrive. Also most new business takes time to develop it can't happen in a week's time, especially in a commodity driven industry (one diaper is a good as the next to these folks and cheapest wins). The only thing that you can use to distinguish yourself from the competition is personal relationship and that takes time to develop.
