I worked at McKesson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Excellent pay
    Great opportunities to grow
    Work/Life balance highly regarded
Community outreach very important to the company

    Cons

Low and mid level managers are usually chosen from project managers or sales pool.
They were good salesmen and project managers but poor managers.
Mckesson has the belief that you can make someone a good manager of people.
Management has an almost royalty self worth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the difference between someone who is competent at their job and someone who is a good people manager.
Leadership can be taught but not everyone can learn it.

Great if you're either an old guy from the northeast or willing to work 120 hours a week

    I worked at McKesson

    Pros

Pay is pretty decent on the technology side of the business. Definitely much less on the distribution side. Good bonus structure for Manager and above.

    Cons

Very much a "boys' club" in executive leadership. If you aren't someone's "boy" you won't advance beyond a certain level. Layoffs are a regular occurrence, and frequently use the "salami-slice" approach to selecting who gets whacked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage headcount better so you don't lay off people all the time, and let new "boys" and "girls" into the senior leadership club.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
