I worked at McKesson

Pros

Great company mission of trying to make healthcare more effective and efficient; strong leadership team at top management level; very "smart" company in terms of strategy and operations

Cons

Somewhat homogenous; top ranks still largely dominated by older white men, but company seems to be committed to improving diversity. As a woman, I was always in the minority in management meetings, but I never felt that my gender was an impediment in my ability to succeed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to be so corporate; don't let bureacracy keep you from being nimble

    I worked at McKesson

    Pros

Its a large company and there is a vast amount of projects and work to be done. There are some great people that work there, and the knowelege that can be spread is a big asset to McKesson. Because the company is spread out across the counrty it make for a enjoyable way to meet people from all over.

    Cons

McKesson's biggest downside is the way it treats employees. From the lack of support from HR to the confusion of a very top heavy management structure, its hard to get any work done, because the priority changes constantly. The oursourced HR model that McKesson uses ensures that you are treated as a number, not as an employee. There are very few opportunites to grow within the company and McKesson version of career advacenment is missing the mark.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thin some middle tier management, and focus more on people doing work, instead of people manging people that do work.

I have been working at McKesson

    Pros

Access to national view of pharma distribution and healthcare services from the leading company.
McKesson pushes the envelope in developing unique strategies and tactics for doing business.
Ability to have an impact or work on opportunities with other healthcare market leaders.

    Cons

Senior leadership is going in the right direction, however, the "old boys club" mentality of upper management provides stagnation, frustration, and a glass ceiling to most employees. A select few perform the work while others are left to collecting paychecks with no advancement / contribution. Politics and micro-management are key contributors to most day-to-day frustrations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on rotational programs and engaging employees at all levels of the organization.
