Pros

- Fantastic on-the-job and dedicated off-site training (focus on soft skills and problem-solving process) - Genuinely nice people to work with - Exposure to to Fortune 500 clients and most important strategic issues - Well-maintained and powerful alumni network - Useful brand name on your resume, opens doors in most business sectors

Cons

- Work/life balance can be hard to sustain - Travel internationally can limit time in home office - Types of projects not always ideal to consultant's career path (e.g. Healthcare projects are popular in 2009 though Financial Services aligned consultants may not want to be in that sector)

Advice to Management

- Focus more universally on apprenticeship model - Maintain meritocratic, team-based culture

    Pros

McKinsey has a great brand name, great for resume building, and will open a lot of doors while you get to learn a lot helping some top tier companies out

    Cons

The primary downside is that relative to what you can make in banking or finance (pre-2008 meltdown) you don't get paid very well. The other downsides are that you sometimes do a lot of work and at the end of the day the client can end up ignoring your recommendations all-together. You rarely get to see anything concrete happen. Also, what you're doing is often ambiguous and feels very fluffy - some people are ok with this, I was not though.

    Advice to Management

Senior management plays no role in your life there as everything is project based.

    Cons

Hours can be long, pressure to join projects you aren't interested in, can be very political

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with BAs and associates on the current state of the firm
