McKinsey & Company – “All reputation but zero substance”
23 of 28 people found this helpfulPros
Right out of college, it was fun to fly around and pretend to be a big shot.
Looks good to outsiders who are only vaguely familiar with what we do
Cons
Most of the hires here are pathetic social climbers
Some of the worst brown-nosing and nepotism you'll ever see
Too many loud-mouthed pitchmen who are too intellectually deficient to truly contribute
Understanding that most of the time what you end up pitching will offer the client no benefit to them whatsoever
Despite the prestige, exit options are not good
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing really. They've achieved exactly what they've wanted. The Firm has a stellar reputation despite its glaringly obvious incompetence. They are able to recruit well at top colleges and understand to hire the kids who are ambitious but have no real talent. These guys will come to realize that the McKinsey business card is all they have going for them and will fiercely defend the company. It's a brilliant move on the part of management.

I disagree with every line you've written - either we've had very different experiences at the firm, or I suspect you've never worked there.
