Great place to start your career

Former Employee - Business Analyst in New York, NY
Former Employee - Business Analyst in New York, NY

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

They do a great job developing their people. If there's certain skills you'd like to work on, you can let it be known at the beginning of a study and the engagement manager will let you take over a workstream that will help you develop that skill. Also, even when it comes to leaving McKinsey, they're willing to help you out and not blackball you for studies or anything like that

Cons

Some people find the job not particularly thought provoking, but I say this depends largely on what type of study you are on. Other people feel that consulting as a whole is another form of outsourced labor, and I would say that McKinsey is not immune from this trend (again, depending on what study you are on).

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent opportunities and amazing experiences. Good meritocracy and good internal values. Also, a very diverse group of people and a superb thing to have on your CV afterwards

    Cons

Consulting is not as good a prep for life in an ordinary company as you'd think. McKinsey, for example, is pretty transactional vs relationships. Also, life is more of a marathon while McKinsey you're evaluated on a endless series of sprints. Also, I found a lot of the stuff on their ideology a bit preachy - McKinsey is a business after all!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They have a business model that works!!! Try not to be
