Current Employee - Analytics Manager (Internal) in New York, NY

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

- The Firm really lives their values, it is not just paid lip service
 - Really smart colleagues, everyone wants to be the best for the Firm, there are always some people but generally not in a competitive way
 - Constantly challenged, pushed in new areas, learn a lot, never boring; you are asked to solve tough problems no matter if that is your formal job responsibility or not

Cons

- Everyone is over-worked
 - You can't get anything done without a Partner sponsor and conversely, if a Partner, any Partner, has an idea then you have to do it. This can lead to a lack of vision and unifying strategy to the work we do
 - Ceiling of advancement for non-consultants; there is a lot you can do and a lot of options but the path isn't clearly defined so you have to work at it, and ultimately you will hit a ceiling
 - Most people treat non-consultant colleagues with respect and appreciation, but those that don't create enough of a bad feeling that it taints the whole experience

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The challenges, disappointment, and issues for non-consultants are obvious and well-known. Either get serious about fixing them or be prepared for the consequences.

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Autonomy and camaraderie are two of the most compelling reasons to work here. Exposure to expert, intelligent leaders who will spent time coaching is also a big plus.

    Cons

Travel and hours can be a drag. Client services is also an inherently challenging area and a lot of the job is managing expectations, figuring out how to explain ideas to clients, and re-doing analyses to fit new specifications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep encouraging connectivity among junior people
